Science fiction opens windows into other worlds – it offers escape from every day life, whether it be in the form of books, films, artwork or music. It is my job as an artist to create that vital link between the audience and the concept.
When growing up, I was captivated by the visionary science fiction, fantasy and space art of the 1970s and 80s – and from my first glimpse of a computer mouse and paint program in 1990, to my current Apple Mac and graphics tablet, that influence has come full circle. As an honorary artist for the Initiative for Interstellar Studies, it is crucial to recognise the importance of science fact and fiction in the quest to promote the possibility of interstellar travel.
There is an inevitable convergence between art and music – both are like painting; one uses sounds, the other uses colours.
I have been recording atmospheric instrumental music under the name “The Light Dreams” since 2006, and was invited to be honorary musician for the Initiative for Interstellar Studies in 2012. There are many common themes running through both my art and music.
